Sandy No Match for Microturbines
June 20 2013
During Megastorm Sandy reliable Capstone MicroTurbines helped many vital facilities avoid rampant utility-power failures by producing non-stop power for venues including a data center serving the U.S. Department of Defense, a critical Red Cross shelter, a health care facility and a pair of Manhattan office buildings, among others. With news agencies reporting outages totaling over eight million electrical utility customers at peak, Capstone’s dependable microturbines ensured customers along the eastern seashore weathered the storm without power losses, and continue to operate seamlessly in the storm’s aftermath.
“Hurricane Sandy is a tragedy that has had a terrible loss of life and property,” said Darren Jamison, Capstone President and Chief Executive Officer. “I'm proud of the performance of the Capstone products that successfully kept our customers in business during this crisis."
